During the month of May, we encourage you to get out and pedal no matter where you need to go: ride to errands; ride to visit friends and family; ride for recreation; ride for your health; and ride for your commute. Ride WHEREVER you need to go!
Solano County, as part of the Nine-County Bay Area Bike To Wherever Days, has full month of activities including: Bike to School Day on May 3rd, a Community Ride, a Pledge to Ride, Contests with prizes, a Bike Maintenance and Skills Clinic, and more. And be sure to come out for Bike to Work Day on Thursday, May 18th, to celebrate bicycling and get your 2023 commemorative bag! Everyone on two wheels is welcome!
Bike Champion of the Year – Congratulations to 2023 Solano County Bike Champion of the Year Robert ‘Bob’ Haran. Read his inspiring story here: Bike Champions of the Year 2023 — Bay Area Bike To Work
Thank you, Solano County for a great slate of nominees this year!
Bike Month Pledge to Ride – Pledge to Ride your bike during May by signing up here, and you’ll be entered to win prizes (gift cards, bicycle helmets, commemorative T-shirts, Diamondback Starter Kits, and more). Earn a bonus contest entry if you regularly commute to work by transit (bus/rail/ferry), rideshare (vanpool/carpool), active transportation (walk/ride your bike) or telework, and enroll in our ongoing Commute Challenge here: commuterinfo.net.
Bike to School Day – Each May, students across Solano County strap on their helmets, hop on their bikes and pedal to school on National Bike to School Day, as part of National Bike Month. The Solano Safe Routes to School program sponsored the first event in 2013, and participation continues to grow. This year, Bike to School Day will be held on May 3rd. For more information on how your school can participate visit: Solano Transportation Authority | Safe Routes to School (ca.gov)
Bike to Work Day – On Thursday, May 18th, the Bay Area will celebrate Bike to Work Day! Volunteers will pass out free, commemorative bike bags in the early morning commute hours at the Suisun Amtrak station, Vallejo Ferry building, and on the Benicia Bike path to bike commuters. Fisk’s Cyclery in Dixon, Ray’s Cycle in Vacaville, Wheels in Motion in Benicia, and the Solano Transportation Authority in Suisun City will also have bags available. Bike commuters can visit any of the Solano County Energizer Stations to pick up their bike bag with goodies (while supplies last). Stop by our energizer stations to learn more about Bucks for Bikes and our other commuter incentive programs: Solano Mobility | Commuter Programs. (Note: National Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 19th, but the Bay Area celebrates on Thursday when more people in our nine counties commute to work.)
Community Bike Ride – We’ll celebrate Bike To Wherever Days with a Vallejo community bike ride on May 13th. For more information: Vallejo Bike Ride.
Benicia Bike Maintenance and Skills Clinic – The Benicia Bike Club will host a Bike Maintenance and Skills Clinic for ADULTS on May 21st. For more information: Benicia Bike Maintenance and Skills Clinic.
#BikeSolano Bike Challenge Photo Contest – This year Solano Mobility is excited to introduce our Bike To Wherever Days Photo Contest! Each week in May we will announce a Bike ride theme and hashtag, and encourage you to post a picture of your ride celebrating the week’s theme. Don’t forget to use the hashtag of the week to be entered for a chance to win a prize. Announcements will be made in June on Solano Mobility’s Facebook and Twitter Pages.
